PSG Issue Strong Transfer Stance on Liverpool, Real Madrid Target

PSG have steadily focused on bringing in top French talent in recent transfer windows, adding players like Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, and Lucas Chevalier.

That approach seems set to continue as the club bolsters its defense. While Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has been linked, PSG may be targeting another high-profile French defender.

Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, under contract through the 2025–26 season, has reportedly drawn genuine interest from PSG. Sport Bild’s Christian Falk notes that the club closely monitors the defender.

Should Upamecano become available next summer, PSG could see him as a key defensive signing, though persuading him may be a challenge given competition from several other elite clubs.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says PSG are keeping tabs on Upamecano. He could join the club in the summer of 2026, but only if he chooses not to extend his contract with Bayern Munich, allowing him to arrive on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke reports that Bayern Munich are quietly negotiating with Upamecano’s camp to keep him at the Allianz Arena, with no intention of allowing a move to Liverpool. Nonetheless, once January arrives, the Frenchman can speak to any club and sign a pre-contract.

“Well, I’m sure they’ll be hoping that maybe they could sign a player of the caliber of Upamecano on a potential free transfer in the summer,O’Rourke said. “Look, as you said, he’s under contract at the Allianz Arena until the summer and discussions over a new dealer are ongoing between Upamecano’s representatives and Bayern Munich.

“Bayern are hopeful that they can persuade the France international to stay, but he will have a lot of options and there’s no getting away from that. Right now it’s probably an open race for signature as there’ll be so many clubs ready to sign him on a free transfer if a new deal can’t be agreed. But Bayern are doing everything they can to try and persuade the Frenchman to stay.”

Upamecano’s deal runs through June 2026, and he’s requesting a renewal fee of around €20 million. As a result, Cadena SER reported that Real Madrid could turn that into a signing bonus, allowing the French defender to don the white shirt and form a formidable trio alongside Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen.
