Paris Saint-Germain has requested its Ligue 1 match against Lens be rescheduled to accommodate the Champions League double-header against Liverpool

Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly requested to postpone its Ligue 1 match against Lens next month in order to help with the side’s preparations for the Champions League tie against Liverpool.

The French and English champions meet next month at the quarter-final stage of the competition, a little over a year after PSG eliminated Liverpool in the last-16 en route to winning the trophy for the first time.

PSG is favorites to do so again this season, and many, including Steven Gerrard, are backing the Parisians to win the trophy outright for a second successive year. The odds of that happening would certainly increase if PSG could get its top-of-the-table clash with Lens moved.

The clubs currently sit first and second in Ligue 1, with PSG a point clear and, crucially, has a game in hand.

The match at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis is scheduled for April 11, in between the matches against Liverpool on April 8 and 14.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, PSG has requested that the game be postponed. Strasbourg has also asked for the league game with Brest on the same weekend to be rescheduled as it falls between its Conference League quarter-final against Mainz.

It is a common occurrence for such requests to be granted by Ligue 1. PSG’s game against Nantes was postponed earlier this month, as it was scheduled between the two last-16 legs against Chelsea.

The report adds that the league’s directors will meet this Thursday to decide on the date of both matches, with L’Equipe claiming that “such a decision does not require the opposing teams’ agreement to postpone the games.”

Liverpool, on the other hand, faces a home match against Fulham just three days before the second leg. Last week, Arne Slot complained about the number of times his team has faced three matches in seven days since, ahead of the Premier League loss at Brighton.

Asked after the win over Galatasaray about the prospect of a reunion with PSG, Slot said: “We were completely outplayed away from home last season and then lost on penalties. They haven't dropped their standards, but after tonight, they won't be happy to play us.”

Meanwhile, Luis Enrique said he is looking to recreate some “beautiful memories” when he faces Slot again.

“When Liverpool were the best team in Europe at the time, they were playing incredible football. I remember Arne Slot speaking very well about PSG, at a time when nobody else was,” the former Barcelona coach said.

“It was very positive for us, a beautiful memory of a classic tie. We're looking forward to this quarter-final, first in Paris, then in Liverpool.”
