Ray Parlour hands Arsenal major Man City worry in latest race to Premier League title

1 day ago 38

Ray Parlour has warned Arsenal's supporters not to get carried away insisting Man City's winning power makes them the Gunners' biggest title threat.

Former England international Ray Parlour reckons there's plenty to be scared about with Manchester City as Pep Guardiola's side begin to hunt down Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

Man City took a bite out of the Gunners' lead in the last round of fixtures. Mikel Arteta's side could only pick up a draw against high-flying Sunderland, while City smashed fierce rivals Liverpool 3-0.

The top two sides in the league both face tricky opponents this weekend. Guardiola's side will make the journey north-east to play Newcastle at St James' Park, while Arteta's team play their close neighbours Tottenham in the first North London Derby of the season.

Arsenal legend Parlour has admitted he's not getting carried away with the Gunners' lead at the top because, as previous seasons have shown, City will push them all the way to the end.

Speaking on radio station talkSPORT, he said: "I think so [Man City are the biggest worry]. It's a situation where Liverpool are capable of winning 10 [games] in a row. Man City are capable of winning 10 [games] in a row, so I don't get carried away at the moment.

"All I want for Arsenal is to keep getting the results that they're getting, you get carried away, and it gets to March time, and you're in the title race, and you look at the run-ins and you look at every single point matters then. But it's just about ticking over now and keeping in the title race.

"I know we've had a couple of injuries in recent weeks, but Man City are capable of winning plenty of games."

The two title rivals have already played each other this season, with Man City picking up a point away from home. They will next face off in April next year, which could be poised as a title-deciding match.

Four points currently separate Arsenal and Man City in the table, with both teams having the same goal difference. Chelsea are two points off City in third, and Liverpool look to be falling behind in eighth place.

Guardiola's opponents on Saturday afternoon - Newcastle United - are experiencing a difficult spell in the Premier League. Eddie Howe's side sit in 14th having won just three of their opening 11 fixtures.
