RB Leipzig make major Xavi Simons decision as Chelsea watch on amid rival interest

RB Leipzig have made a decision regarding Xavi Simons amid continued links of a possible transfer to Chelsea.

The Blues have been credited with an interest in signing the Netherlands international, as the summer transfer window rolls on. Simons' future has been the subject of speculation for some time, with rumours first starting earlier this year, and Chelsea have now emerged as a potential destination for Simons if he was to leave Leipzig this summer.

As football.london understands, personal terms between Chelsea and Simons are already close to being agreed, but the Blues are yet to officially enter club-to-club talks with Leipzig.

Simons is reported to be valued at around €70million (£60.6million) by Leipzig but it remains to be seen if Chelsea will be prepared to pay that figure. Now a fresh update has emerged about Simons' future - which may offer a hint towards a potential move to Chelsea.

As Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has claimed on X, formerly Twitter, Simons has travelled with the Leipzig squad as part of their latest pre-season training camp. However, Simons was not involved in training on Tuesday, it has been claimed, due to the Bundesliga outfit managing the playmaker's fitness.

It's also understood by football.london that Simons has often dreamt of playing for Chelsea, having followed the club since childhood. Simons also had a trial with the Blues at the start of his career which did not result in a move to Stamford Bridge.

Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest in signing Simons this summer. Leipzig signed the 22-year-old on a permanent deal in January from Paris Saint-Germain in a move reported to be worth €50million (£43million) and, now, Simons looks set to join a new club just a few months later.
