Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been tipped to end up at Real Madrid amid speculation that Jurgen Klopp could replace Xabi Alonso as head coach at the Bernabeu.

Salah and Egypt were knocked out of AFCON on Wednesday but when he returns to Merseyside, it won't be long before talk about his future resumes. Only a few weeks ago, Salah accused people at Liverpool of "throwing him under the bus."

With 18 months or so remaining on the contract he penned less than 12 months ago, Salah could still be a key man for Arne Slot before the end of the season. Nevertheless, Gaizka Mendieta says he should interest Real Madrid.

"He isn’t a young player, but we have seen experienced players like Robert Lewandowski be a success here in recent years," the former Spain international Mendieta told Boyle Sports.

"He has proven that players over 30 can come to Spain and offer so much with their experience.

"Barcelona might not be able to make the finances work, but Real Madrid has a spot on the right-hand side that could be the perfect fit for Salah.

"Barca have Lamine Yamal, but Salah can be flexible. I think Salah would strengthen both clubs if he were to come to Spain, but it just depends on the contract."

Salah is not the only Liverpool legend to be linked with Real Madrid lately. According to Sky Germany, former manager Klopp is a candidate to replace Alonso.

Klopp would supposedly consider such a move. The 58-year-old, the report says, could be tempted into making the switch, even though it doesn't feel like a natural fit.

"I think the rumors have been circulating for some time now," Klopp said when Alonso was fired.

"And I know exactly what your question is getting at, but it has nothing to do with me.

"I was surprised [that Alonso was fired]; that’s true. Genuinely surprised. Then a few people messaged me, and I replied with various emojis."

Liverpool.com says: It is hard to imagine Salah at Real Madrid, but he will have options when he leaves Anfield, beyond just the Saudi Pro League. Even though his best years are behind him, he still has plenty to offer, most likely at Liverpool for now.
