Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill – Chelsea injury latest and possible return dates

Reece James is one of six Chelsea stars currently unavailable to Liam Rosenior but the Blues captain could be back sooner than expected

Chelsea are hoping that three key defenders can return from injury for the latter stages of the 2025/26 season. Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill are currently unavailable with varying issues, though the latter has returned to training.

Having missed seven months, Colwill is expected to be eased back into the fold with no clear timeline on a competitive return. An update on when James could be back has emerged, though, with The Guardian reporting the indications are that he may be back later this month or in early May.

Chalobah is another looking at that date for his return from an ankle injury, with Jamie Gittens and Filip Jorgensen as some of the other Chelsea stars missing. While Jorgensen could return next weekend, Liam Rosenior confirmed that Gittens has suffered a fresh hamstring problem.

With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest updates on the Chelsea stars out injured and when they could return

Reece James

Another hamstring injury is keeping James out of action with initial fears that he may not play again this season eased. The England international had avoided any issues in that area 18 months.

What Rosenior has said: "Reece is getting along really well, but he's not ready yet. I don't know [in terms of a return date] yet. We work day to day, and I don't want to give a timeline and [the players] not come through with that timeline."

Possible return date: Late April/Early May.

Trevoh Chalobah

Chalobah was stretchered off in the final knockings of the Champions League last-16 second leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

What Rosenior has said: "Trevoh is progressing really, really well. I don't know [in terms of a return date] yet. We work day to day, and I don't want to give a timeline and [the players] not come through with that timeline."

Possible return date: Early May.

Levi Colwill

Colwill has been in Chelsea team training for nearly one month but he is still some way off playing for the Blues again, as confirmed by Rosenior.

What Rosenior has said: "It's great to have Levi back in full training, but it's going to take him a few more weeks to tick those boxes before he's ready [to feature]."

Possible return date: Late April/early May.

Jamie Gittens

Gittens was on the verge of a return from injury before suffering a fresh hamstring issue in training.

What Rosenior has said: "Unfortunately, Jamie, in training yesterday, picked up what looks like a hamstring injury again. We have to scan him and make sure. It’s a real shame for him... I can’t give you a [RTP] time frame on that at the moment."

Possible return date: N/A.

Benoit Badiashile

Illness has seen Badiashile miss Chelsea's last three games, but he is expected back next weekend.

Possible return date: Man City (H) - April 12.

Filip Jorgensen

Rosenior ruled Jorgensen out for a few weeks back in March after he underwent surgery which suggests he will be returning very soon

What Rosenior has said: "Unfortunately, he had his scan and needed a minor operation. Nothing too serious... that's a matter of weeks."

Possible return date: Man City (H) - April 12.
