Manchester United picked up their second victory of the Premier League campaign on Saturday evening after defeating Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford
Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has sparked a debate surrounding the Reds' start to the season after a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford.
United headed into the game needing a victory and they started off brilliantly when Robert Sanchez was sent off for fouling Bryan Mbeumo outside of the penalty area. Shortly afterwards United made their one-man advantage count as Bruno Fernandes poked home from close range following Patrick Dorgu's header across goal.
The Reds had Chelsea on the ropes and added a second in the 37th minute as Casemiro headed home. However, the Brazilian went from hero to zero when he was sent off in first half stoppage time for a second bookable offence leaving the two teams poised at ten men apiece.
Ruben Amorim's side looked to be cruising to victory until Trevoh Chalobah's header set-up a grandstand finish. Fortunately for United, they managed to hang on and secure a precious three points for the hosts.
Post-match, Ferdinand took to X to ask his followers for their thoughts on the opening to the season with the insinuation from the former defender being that he was content with the points picked up. "After five games playing Arsenal/Manchester City/Chelsea, are we satisfied with seven points," he wrote.
As mentioned, the Reds have already faced three of the traditional 'Big Six' this season with defeats against Arsenal and City preluding the victory over Enzo Maresca's men. Outside of the 'Big Six' United are unbeaten in the Premier League.
The Reds beat Burnley in a topsy-tervy game after drawing 1-1 at Fulham in an underwhelming display. Defeat on penalties to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup has mounted the pressure on Amorim and the consensus among United fans to Ferdinand's question reflected this.
Most respondents said they were dissatisfied with the points tally so far but there was not a huge wave of calls for Amorim to be sacked. At the time of writing, United sit ninth in the Premier League table, two points off the top four.
Next up for United is a trip to Brentford in next Saturday's lunchtime fixture.
