Rodri hands Man City injury update amid Nico Gonzalez worry

Manchester City midfielder Rodri missed the majority of the last two months of 2025 with a hamstring injury but returned to the starting XI at the beginning of January.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has insisted he is feeling ready to play consistently for the remainder of the season. The Spaniard was a huge loss for the Blues after he picked up an ACL injury in September 2024.

Rodri missed nearly all of the remainder of last season but made a seven-minute cameo for City in the penultimate league game against Bournemouth. The 2025/26 campaign has been stop-start for Rodri. He missed two months of action due to a hamstring injury and only returned to the starting XI at the start of January.

He has since played two full 90 minutes, including the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime. When asked by City's club media if he was in a position to kick on for the second half of the season, he insisted he is in good shape. "Yeah, ready to go," he said. "I'm really happy to be on the pitch every single day.

"Every day I feel better so I am happy and excited to help the team." Rodri's admission will be good news for Pep Guardiola as he sweats over the fitness of Nico Gonzalez. While Rodri was out, the 24-year-old stepped into the City team to cover the defensive midfield role.

However, he is now sidelined with an injury having last played 64 minutes against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League. The Spaniard was an unused substitute in the 10-1 thrashing of Exeter City in the FA Cup but did not travel in midweek to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

On Gonzalez's injury, Guardiola said in midweek: "He's injured. He didn't recover well, he made an effort but it's a step back." In his pre-United press conference, the City boss suggested Gonzalez could possibly return for the derby and a decision would be made after training that evening.

Gonzalez did not prove his fitness in time as City were beaten 2-0 at Old Trafford.
