Tottenham have secured the future of Rodrigo Bentancur, with the midfielder expressing his delight at having signed a new long-term deal.
Tottenham Hotspur ran the risk of losing Rodrigo Bentancur on a free next summer, with the midfielder’s contract having less than 12 months left on it.
The club has since moved to extend the contract of Bentancur, handing him a long-term deal that will see him stay at Spurs for the foreseeable future.
Thomas Frank has openly expressed his admiration for Bentancur, describing him as a top player whom he can get the best out of.
The new contract, he believes, is proof that the club is heading in the right direction both on and off the pitch.
Rodrigo Bentancur expresses joy after signing new Tottenham deal
Speaking to the club’s official channel, Bentancur has now made it clear how much the contract renewal means to him, expressing both personal and professional happiness at the decision.
Bentancur first joined Tottenham back in January 2022 and has gone on to make 123 appearances for the club.
During that time, he has enjoyed both highs and lows – from playing a part in a Europa League triumph to battling through a long-term injury setback. Yet his affection for Tottenham has never wavered.
“I feel really good and very happy to continue this history with this fantastic Club,” said Rodrigo.
“Also, my family is so happy, so I want to enjoy the moment. I want to continue my history with this Club. I think it is the best decision to continue. So I am very happy. I love the Club and I feel really good. I have friends, fantastic people who work hard every day in this Club.
“And then it is also a family project. We have my daughter, we love this country, my wife and I are awaiting our second baby next year. So we are really happy and we want to enjoy this. After three and a half years, it is my home. So I am very happy to continue my history in this country.”
Thomas Frank sees more growth to come from Bentancur
Tottenham fans have long regarded Rodrigo Bentancur as one of the most underrated midfielders in the club, while Thomas Frank believes there is still another level the Uruguayan can reach.
Bentancur has started the new season in mixed fashion, with flashes of brilliance often followed by quieter displays, something Frank is keen to help him address.
The Tottenham boss wants Bentancur to focus on building consistency and dictate the tempo of games, before turning his attention towards adding more goals from midfield – an area Frank feels could elevate Bentancur’s overall impact.
