Rodrygo Arsenal transfer condition revealed as Andrea Berta hatches Eberechi Eze backup plan

6 days ago 58

Mikel Arteta will be eager to bolster his squad before the summer transfer window slams shut in a few weeks. Arsenal have already forked out nearly £200m on new players this summer, yet there's still lots of work to be done.

The Gunners began by signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea before wrapping up a deal for Martin Zubimendi. Once Thomas Partey and Jorginho left following the expiry of their respective contracts, Arsenal brought in Christian Nørgaard.

While Andrea Berta was in west London, he returned to Stamford Bridge to snap-up Noni Madueke. Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres have since followed the former Blues winger to the Emirates Stadium, taking the Gunners' total spend to £190m.

If Arteta wants to compete on all fronts this season, he may need to make one more marquee signing. So, with that being said, football.london rounds up up the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Arsenal keep tabs on Rodrygo and Eze

According to The Times, Arsenal are still keeping tabs on Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid. The report claims that the Gunners will consider a move for the 24-year-old forward if Los Blancos are happy to arrange a loan deal.

It's said that Arsenal are still planning to approach Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze, whose £68m release clause reportedly expires on August 15. Meanwhile, Spanish radio station Cadena SER has reported that Tottenham are also in the running to sign Rodrygo, and they're considering a €60m (£52m) offer.

football.london says: "Arsenal need to bring in one of Eberechi Eze or Rodrygo before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1. Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Noni Madueke are not title-winning left wing options – unless they perform to a standard that we've never seen before..."

Arsenal monitor Lookman's situation

According to The Sun journalist Jordan Davies, Arsenal are keeping tabs on Ademola Lookman’s situation at Atalanta. The report claims that the Italian outfit want at least £45m for the 27-year-old forward, whose contract at the Gewiss Stadium expires in June 2027.

Last week, Lookman announced on social media that he has handed in a formal transfer request. In a lengthy statement, the former Fulham, Everton and Leicester City ace apologised for taking such drastic action.

He claimed that higher-ups at Atalanta said he could leave this summer if they were to receive a 'fair offer'. Lookman added that a club had since submitted a bid 'in alignment' with what he believed had been verbally agreed, but the move was blocked.

football.london says: "Ademola Lookman would be a good signing for Arsenal. He's put up great numbers in Italy over the years, so I wouldn't be opposed to the Gunners taking a punt if Eberechi Eze or Rodrygo are unavailable."

Arsenal snub Chelsea offer for striker

According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal turned down the opportunity to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea. The report claims that, at the time, the Gunners were focused on wrapping up a deal for Gyokeres, who has since signed a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.

football.london says: "Generally speaking, the striker market wasn't great this summer, but lots of clubs were desperate to bolster their attacking options. For some reason, a 15-goal-a-season frontman now goes for at least £60m. The world has gone mad!"
