Rodrygo issues blunt two-word Real Madrid message after Arsenal transfer chase

1 day ago 43

Rodrygo has issued a blunt two-word message and reaffirmed his commitment to Real Madrid following a summer of transfer speculation. Arsenal had been long linked with a move for the 24-year-old throughout the window, as the Gunners looked to strengthen their front line.

However, despite his apparent lack of game time at Los Blancos, he decided to remain in Madrid and fight his place under Xabi Alonso, who was appointed as the club's new head coach in May.

Rodrygo started his first game of the season during Real's comfortable 3-0 win at Real Oviedo last weekend before coming off the bench in the 2-1 success against Real Mallorca on Saturday.

Although he is behind Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe in the pecking order at Santiago Bernabeu, Rodrygo appears to be willing to tussle for a starting spot, with Real blessed with competition in attack.

Now, after the transfer window slammed shut and it was all-but confirmed that Rodrygo would remain at Real for at least the rest of the 2025/26 season, he has issued a defiant message to the club's fans.

In an Instagram post alongside a video detailing his best memories in a Real shirt, Rodrygo said: "My home," accompanied with a white love heart emoji.

After arriving in a £39.3million deal from Santos in June 2018, Rodrygo has spent the last seven years at Real Madrid, winning 13 major honours, including the Champions League twice and La Liga on three occasions. In that period, he has made 272 appearances, netting 68 goals and adding 51 assists.

Arsenal had been on the lookout for a new left-sided forward and Rodrygo was thought to be under consideration, alongside Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon and AC Milan's Rafael Leao.

But the Gunners opted instead to sign Eberechi Eze, who can be used on the left or in the middle as a No.10, in a £68m move from Crystal Palace. The England international made his debut against Liverpool on Sunday and become the club's seventh signing of the summer transfer window.

Piero Hincapie made it eight through the Emirates Stadium doors on deadline day in a season-long loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres arriving earlier in the summer.
