Rodrygo makes Real Madrid agent request as Arsenal transfer saga takes new twist

3 hours ago 2

Rodrygo has less than a week to secure a move to a new club ahead of the transfer window deadline on September 1.

When the clock strikes 7pm on Monday, the summer transfer window will officially close. Any players hoping for a transfer but failing to find a new club before then will be forced to wait until New Year’s Day when the winter window opens.

The Brazilian winger has been heavily linked with a Real Madrid exit this summer, with Rodrygo's position in the eyes of new manager Xabi Alonso is unclear. The former Liverpool player only gave him 92 minutes across six matches during their Club World Cup campaign.

The 24-year-old was benched for Madrid’s opening La Liga fixture. He did start their weekend clash against Real Oviedo, but his frustration was clear when he was substituted after 63 minutes.

Arsenal were once considered front-runners for his signature, though their interest has reportedly since cooled. However, Mikel Arteta may be tempted rethink following fresh instructions from the player.

Xabi Alonso and Rodrygo

According to The Athletic, Rodrygo has told agents Pini Zahavi and Kia Joorabchian to explore options to leave Real Madrid for a new club this summer. This directly contradicts some claims from his camp that he wants to remain at the Bernabeu.

His transfer saga has been full of mixed messages. Alonso has shifted on whether he sees Rodrygo in his long-term plans, while the player’s own stance has been unclear.

But Rodrygo's instructions to agents Pini and Kia suggest he may finally have made up his mind, or at least is seriously considering leaving Spain’s capital.

Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool have also been linked, though a move to the Emirates now looks unlikely following the £67.5million arrival of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
