Rodrygo sets key condition for transfer after Arsenal links amid telling Carlo Ancelotti message

Former Arsenal target Rodrygo could look to leave Real Madrid should his prospects not improve. The Brazilian was at the heart of serious speculation in the summer having fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu.

Arsenal were linked with a move for the Madrid star but they eventually opted to splash £67.5m on Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace. Despite that, Rodrygo’s future remains up in the air.

The 24-year-old has started just one game under new boss Xabi Alonso this season and according to the website TeamTalk, he would be willing to leave the Spanish giants in January should he not be given enough playing time before then.

Alonso has regularly discussed Rodrygo’s future. Speaking before the summer window, he admitted that the Brazilian wasn’t totally content with life at the Bernabeu.

He said: “I know what had happened in the final stretch, it was not easy for him. He took some time to reset his head and I see him wanting to enjoy and contribute.”

Alonso was then forced to clarify the wideman’s future having left him on the bench for Real’s opening game of the season vs Osasuna.

He said: “Rodrygo? Nothing is happening. I count on Rodrygo of course. It’s just a game, this was my decision."

Rodrygo was then left furious after being taken off against Real Valladolid. Alonso responded: “He had a good game.

“On the left side, he linked up well with Alvaro (Carreras); Arda (Guler) and Kylian (Mbappe) were also drifting over there. He had a couple of shots, and it was difficult to find spaces with Oviedo sitting so deep.”

He added: “I liked what I saw. After last week, we need everyone, and Rodrygo is one more piece of the team.”

Elsewhere, Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti has also given his taken on Rodyrgo’s current position and claimed that their time working together at Real Madrid could stand him in good stead ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

He said: “Obviously, memory counts. I know Rodrygo very well and I’m sure he can help the team.

“We’re evaluating around 70 players - physically, technically, and tactically - to put together the most competitive squad possible for the World Cup. There are no favorites; ultimately, the pitch will decide who goes to the World Cup.”
