Rodrygo to Arsenal transfer theory emerges as Mikel Arteta priority clear

6 days ago 30

The reality for Arsenal remains that outgoings are the priority for the club at present. While the club have been keen to secure a third attacking player during the window, the summer itself has evolved and plans change as things move.

For example, Eberechi Eze, a player known to have been of interest to the club, was particularly high on the radar prior to Ethan Nwaneri’s renewed contract. However, since the 18-year-old’s decision to re-sign, the need for an Eze-type player has been quelled somewhat.

The area where there has been a need for an injection of quality, though, is on the left for a variety of reasons. The first is the potential of Leandro Trossard leaving, which remains a possibility, but so far, tangible interest has not been formalised into a bid, especially with the Belgian currently out injured.

Then there are concerns over the level of quality Arsenal have on the left with Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli. The latter of whom continues to be under scrutiny from supporters after an underwhelming season from the level he reached in 2023/24.

However, suggestions that a loan move for a player of the calibre of Rodrygo are, for now at least, purely theory. The theory being of course that if first team minutes do indeed become a struggle for the Brazilian as the season kicks off next week, he could be tempted into an exit with it being a World Cup year.

Arsenal would be able to offer the elite level football and competitive nature Rodrygo would be looking for, however, without major sales, a permanent move would be very expensive, as would the player’s wages. This is where the idea of a loan with a considerable fee and potential option comes in.

Real Madrid have been privy to these types of moves in the past, as shown by James Rodriguez who joined Bayern Munich for a season with a costly loan fee. The theory therefore has some credence to it, but as of this moment, football.london is unaware of any concrete talks over a potential move of any kind.

This is not to say it categorically will not happen, but as of now, it is more posturing from commentators and supporters than a realistic proposition. Arsenal’s chances of a seventh signing hang on the reality of sorting the exits of several of their surplus talent including Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Reiss Nelson and Karl Hein.
