Roy Keane in no doubt about Liverpool as Burnley win continues familar theme

3 hours ago 27

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane hailed Liverpool’s quality and mentality as Arne Slot’s side once again left it late to pick up their fourth straight win of the season.

The Reds’ perfect start to their Premier League title defense looked to be under threat as they appeared to be heading for a frustrating goalless draw at Burnley upon their return from the international break.

Deep into stoppage time though, Liverpool was awarded a penalty after Hannibal Mejbri handled Jeremie Frimpong’s cross, with Mohamed Salah making no mistake from the spot to make it 12 points out of 12 for the Reds, and leave them sitting at the top of the table.

Liverpool has now managed to find a winner in the 83rd minute or later in each of their four league games so far, with both of its wins against Newcastle and now Burnley coming courtesy of stoppage time goals.

The Reds were, once again, not all that convincing at Turf Moor, but Keane was full of praise for their resilience as they managed to dig out another win.

“Liverpool has quality players and a desire to win matches,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“Slot has good options off the bench, as we have seen so far this season. Burnley showed a lot of grit but Liverpool deserved to win the game.

“The weight of pass was so off today but you just thought Liverpool would get one more chance.

“Liverpool kept going until the end and that is what top teams do.”

The Reds will now turn their attention to the Champions League, with Atletico Madrid visiting Anfield on Wednesday before the first Merseyside derby of the season sees Liverpool hosting Everton on Saturday.

Liverpool.com says: It really wasn’t great from Liverpool against Burnley, and you’d have to say the Reds got away with it thanks to a moment of madness from Hannibal. Still, you can’t argue with four wins out of four.

The major positive is, of course, that there will surely be more to come from this team, especially with Alexander Isak to throw into the mix. They have shown great resilience to make the perfect start to their title defense, but it would be nice to see them making things a bit easier for themselves now!
