Ryan Gravenberch lifts the lid on first impressions of Florian Wirtz during Liverpool training

Ryan Gravenberch has been impressed with what he's seen so far from Florian Wirtz during Liverpool pre-season training.

Wirtz linked up with his new teammates for the first time when the players returned to the AXA Training Center a couple of weeks ago, and he made his first appearance for his new club in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke last weekend.

Wirtz will appear in a televised game for the first time this weekend when Liverpool takes on AC Milan in Hong Kong, and fans are extremely excited at the prospect of seeing the 22-year-old turn out for his new team. Speaking about Liverpool's new signings, Gravenberch said.: "Jeremie [Frimpong], obviously I know him for a long time already so I have a really good relationship with him. So I’m really happy that he is here.

“We had a little FaceTime [before he signed]. We spoke to each other and he asked me about Liverpool and everything and I gave him really good advice! I am happy that he is here.

“I think everyone knows Florian and also here in training he is a really good player: technical, really good vision, so I am really happy that he is here and I can’t wait for the season to start also to play with him.”

Outlining his goals for the new season, Gravenberch said: “To make it a really nice season again. My aims are like last season, I just want to be there for the team and to show myself again and be as consistent as I can.”

Liverpool's players flew to China on Sunday, several hours after the 5-0 friendly victory over Stoke, and Gravenberch is enjoying having everyone on board for the tour.

In even-number years, plenty of players end up missing the tours due to their involvement in international tournaments earlier in the summer, but Liverpool's players have had the summer off having not participated in the Club World Cup in the United States.

“You see the weather, it’s actually very warm!" Gravenberch said. "But it’s nice being in Hong Kong and we are making ourselves ready for the competition ahead.

“I think now everyone is here from the start. Last season it was the Euros [and Copa America] so a lot of people were not there [during pre-season]. Now we can start again with everyone and make a really nice pre-season.”
