Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch immediately responded to Peter Crouch's "best in the world" challenge by scoring a worldie against Everton in the Merseyside Derby.
Crouch, who played for the Reds for three full seasons, totaling 134 games, scoring 42 goals, challenged the 23-year-old to score more goals to become a complete midfielder. "It's so nice to watch. The strength as well… I feel like he's got everything," Crouch said before kickoff.
"If he continues in this vein, carries on playing the way he plays and Liverpool win things, you've got a player there who's gonna win player of the year awards. He's that good. He's on his way to being one of the best if not the best midfielder in the league.
"He's just got to find that consistency, some of the attributes and the way he breaks lines by just running at people through the centre of the pitch, he can pick a pass… if he adds goals to his game he's got absolutely everything as a midfielder."
And just ten minutes into the Merseyside Derby against David Moyes' side, Gravenberch stepped up to the plate.
The midfielder, who joined from Bayern Munich in 2023 and helped Liverpool win a Carabao Cup and a Premier League title, broke into the penalty area and lifted a shot over Jordan Pickford and into the far corner.
