Sacked Thomas Frank staff member reacts to short but ‘valuable’ Tottenham stint

A member of Thomas Frank’s coaching staff, who followed the Dane out of the door, has reflected on his short time at Tottenham.

The Frank experiment failed at Spurs miserably, with the Dane exiting the North London club after just eight months.

It was not just the former Brentford boss who departed but also several members of his coaching staff, as new interim boss Igor Tudor brought some of his own trusted lieutenants to Spurs.

Justin Cochrane, John Heitinga and Chris Haslam exited Tottenham two weeks ago alongside Frank, as the Lilywhites decided to change course amidst the very real threat of relegation.

Joe Newton reflects on his short stay at Tottenham

Another member of Frank’s staff to depart Hotspur Way was first team coach analyst Joe Newton, who had followed the Dane from Brentford to Spurs.

Newton has now posted a classy message on social media, admitting that he learned and grew during his time at Tottenham, although the spell was cut short much earlier than he would have wanted.

He wrote (via Football.London): “A week or so ago, my time at Tottenham Hotspur came to an end. Although it’s ended a lot sooner than I and others had hoped for, I am still thankful for the opportunity. Even in a short seven/eight months, I have gained many valuable experiences.

“I really enjoyed my Coach Analyst role, working in the Champions League, building on existing relationships with Thomas and others, as well as creating relationships with new coaches, analysts and other staff. As the cliché goes, when one door closes another one opens. I’m looking forward to what is next in my career.”

Newton receives supportive messages from Spurs staff

It appears, based on the reactions to Newton’s post, that he was a popular figure at Hotspur Way. Several members of staff passed on their good wishes to the analyst and revealed that they enjoyed working with him.

First team academy transition coach Stuart Lewis responded: “Great getting to know you and working with you mate! Top person! Wishing you all the best for the future.”

Goalkeeper coach Fabian Otte wrote: “You’re the best Joe!!”, while fellow coach Dean Brill said: “Absolute pleasure mate”.
