Sam Allardyce suggests Mohamed Salah should've been silenced - 'Shut him up'

Sam Allardyce claims someone at Liverpool should've stopped Mohamed Salah from speaking to the press after Saturday's game.

Salah created a storm following the 3-3 draw at Leeds by telling reporters in the mixed zone that he's been thrown "under the bus" by the club. The 33-year-old also claimed that he has no relationship with Arne Slot after being benched for consecutive games.

Salah was dropped from Liverpool's squad altogether following his comments, with Jamie Carragher calling him a "disgrace." Allardyce, who took charge of more than a thousand games as a manager, is also not impressed by what the Egyptian had to say at Leeds.

"When he went out into the mix zone, somebody at the club should have shut him up," Allardyce told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast. "They should have stepped in and said, 'Right, let's move on.'

"There are that many people in the media now that are following and watching, the journalist's eyes must have been lighting up. You wouldn’t even pick him to be one of the players who go to the press zone."

Salah's final game for Liverpool before taking part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt is Saturday's clash against Brighton. It's still unclear whether the veteran forward will play against the Seagulls, having missed the 1-0 victory against Inter Milan on Tuesday.

There's also a good chance that Salah will leave Liverpool in January following his comments, with teams in Saudi Arabia interested. Allardyce believes it's time for Liverpool to say goodbye to the club legend, who has scored exactly 250 goals for the Reds.

Allardyce added: "I would get him gone.

"I’d recommend to the board to move him on. He’s going to AFCON, and he’ll probably have a great tournament, because if he wants to move on, and he performs at AFCON with the level he is, it’ll then just be determined on how much Liverpool want for him."

Allarydce was then asked if Salah could repair his relationship with Slot, should the player stay on Merseyside. Salah played a crucial role in Liverpool's Premier League title triumph under Slot last season, scoring 34 goals and providing 23 assists in all competitions.

The ex-manager said: "It all depends on the conversations they’ve had.

"If Arne Slot has ignored him, it’s Arne Slot’s fault. You’ve got to talk to them. You’ve got to let your players come and knock on the door and say what they think. You’ve got to sit down and talk about it sensibly.

"It’s Arne Slot’s job to look at why Mo Salah has gone off the boil if he thinks he has, and then call him in and tell him what he thinks. Salah will probably say that he doesn’t get the service. He’s a typical frontman; they’ve always got an excuse, it’s never them.

"Salah was great last season, but he also needed a new contract. How many players have we seen get their new big boy contract, then the next season, you think, what happened to him? It’s not new just because Mo Salah’s done it.

"It happens all the time, but because of the size of the club, it’s the main story. It happens everywhere in the Premier League every week, but it doesn’t get in the press."
