It proved to be a good night for Andy Robertson on Friday as he looks to earn his spot back in Arne Slot’s side at Liverpool.
The left-back has been limited to just two substitute appearances so far this season, including just 30 minutes of Premier League action despite being named as the Reds’ new vice-captain by Slot.
The summer signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth looks to have signalled a changing of the guard, with Robertson having been Liverpool’s first-choice on the left virtually since his arrival at Anfield in 2017. The 31-year-old demonstrated on Friday though that he shouldn’t be out of the picture yet at Anfield.
Robertson played the full 90 minutes as he captained Scotland in a goalless draw in Denmark to kick off his country’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
Steve Clarke’s side narrowly missed out on what would have been a huge three points in their quest to reach next year’s tournament in the United States, with Robertson getting plenty of plaudits for his performance.
The Scotsman awarded him an 8/10 in its player ratings, saying: “The captain has not started this season for Liverpool but class is permanent.
“Now such an experienced player, Robertson patrolled his left flank very well. Was fairly quiet in an attacking sense in the first half but as the match wore on, he put in some tantalising crosses into the penalty box, but nobody on the end to put them in.”
The Herald also awarded Robertson an 8/10, commenting: “Consistently provided enticing deliveries all game that were just asking to be attacked. Looked fresh despite lack of game time for Liverpool or late.”
The Edinburgh Evening News, meanwhile, gave Robertson a 7/10, saying: “Couple of dangerous crosses from the skipper, who hasn't started a game for Liverpool this season.
“An experienced campaigner now, but was fairly quiet in an attacking sense. Improved after the break and worked tirelessly.”
And there was another 7/10 from the Daily Record, who commented: “Initially sat back in his position before growing into it and venturing forward more. Incredible cross in in second half deserved to be buried.”

Robertson will likely feature again for his country on Monday as Scotland heads to Belarus before reporting back for Liverpool ahead of the clash with Burnley on September 14.
Speaking about his situation at Anfield earlier this week, Robertson said: "I believe when we come back and we've got lots of games, then hopefully that I can play more games. I've missed the feeling of playing games, obviously, I'm used to being a regular starter for so many years and it's been a bit difficult with the transition.
"But I think I've dealt with it fairly well. It's just about trying to look after yourself, keeping yourself as fit as possible, mentally staying as sharp as possible, and I've done that in training.
"Then, obviously, coming away here, I'm just excited to be away with Scotland now and get games under my belt, and also no bigger games than World Cup qualifiers, so excited to be a part of that. Then, let's see what happens when we go back to Liverpool."
