Sensational Man City leave Arne Slot hopping mad as fans send brutal Liverpool message

Manchester City thrashed Liverpool 4-0 in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday to increase the pressure on Reds boss Arne Slot

At one point with Manchester City 4-0 up and cruising, most of the Etihad had their backs to play and were engaged in a Poznan celebration. Those who weren't partaking were in the away end, where plenty headed for an early exit.

This was a vintage City showing against a Liverpool team who looked a shadow of the side who eased past the Blues twice last season on their way to the Premier League title.

Arne Slot cut a disconsolate figure at full time with the manager under huge pressure after a poor title defence, the prospect of missing out on the Champions League and a drubbing at the Etihad. Lose to PSG in Europe in midweek and it could be curtains for the Dutchman.

He, much like his side, had begun the game with energy. Slot is one of the more animated managers the Etihad has seen this season and he spent much of the first half leaping and jumping, gesturing and arguing.

At one point a decision by Michael Oliver to prevent Liverpool from taking a quick throw in prompted Slot to hop across his technical area in disbelief. There was more than one angry word with fourth official Paul Tierney.

But as Liverpool's challenge subsided so did Slot's mood. City had romped to victory and Slot was left standing in isolation in his dug-out.

The away end emptied rapidly at 4-0, with many more following when Mo Salah's penalty was kept out by James Trafford. By the final whistle there was little more than a few hundred left in the top two tiers of the South Stand.

By contrast, City's supporters were buoyant. Roaring off their side, delighted by what they had seen. An early kick off following an international break can be a tricky test, City passed it with ease.

Pep Guardiola spent the game at the back of the stand as he served the second and final of his latest touchline ban. His afternoon was largely spent serenely taking in the action with the occasional phone call down to the bench.

Guardiola and City can look forward to the resumption of the Premier League campaign next weekend with renewed vigour. Slot and Liverpool will be dreading it.
