Six Greater Manchester motorways to close next week with parts of M60, M62, and M66 shut night City and United play

The planned closures mean drivers need to plan ahead

Six Greater Manchester motorways will be closed as millions of Mancs make their return to work, school or college next week.

National Highways, the body which runs the country’s motorways and major A-roads, has issued its weekly ‘road closure report’ for Monday (January 5) to Thursday (January 8). It has confirmed six motorways are planned to close overnight.

They are the M60, M602, M61, M62, M66, and M67. Most closures begin at 9pm and will be lifted by 6am the following morning. While that may affect some early risers, Manchester United fans coming back from the Red Devils’ away fixture at Burnley on Wednesday (8:15pm kick off) should be aware large sections of the M60 and M66 will be closed, among others.

On the same evening, Manchester City will host Brighton at the Etihad (7:30pm kick off), meaning fans should plan ahead if they have to use the motorway to get home.
