Liverpool is set to ring the changes against Southampton in the Carabao Cup after an intense week for some of its usual starters. But Will Still could be making alterations too.
The two sides have had contrasting starts to the new campaign. The Saints' hopes of bouncing straight back to the Premier League already look distant, after just one win in six games, whereas Arne Slot has presided over a perfect record at Liverpool.
But if Still is hoping to take advantage of a less experienced Liverpool side than usual, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah set to sit out, he will have to do so without a handful of his own stars. And on top of injury doubts, he may choose to emulate his counterpart with unenforced alterations to the line-up.
You'd think he will go all out for the win, given that the big question is if he will still be in a job if this run of results continues. But at least one player will definitely be sidelined.
Welington is a long-term absentee for Southampton. He got injured against Stoke in August, with Still confirming he would be out for a couple of months.
Meanwhile, there are two more doubts. Flynn Downes was an unused substitute against Hull, with Still revealing in the build-up that the midfielder is struggling with persistent illness.
Cameron Archer missed out on a start due to tightness in his hamstring. He was summonned from the bench, but his readiness to start at Anfield remains to be seen.
Still has also hinted that he will make other changes. Given the poor league form, he has pledged to start players who "deserve" the opportunity, which might see some fringe players tested out.
As such, both sides could have a distinctly different look about them when they meet. Slot's side is likely to have a youthful look, and at least two players are in line to make their club debuts.
Giovanni Leoni signed from Parma in the summer, and is yet to get a chance to feature. With Slot ruling out both of his usual center-backs, the Italian is bound to get the nod.
Likewise, Giorgi Mamardashvili should be set to deputize for Alisson for the first time. It will be interesting to get a look at the highly-rated stopper, who appeared impressive in preseason.
Those two look more or less nailed on to feature. But Slot could even end up handing out more debuts.
Rob Page's omissions from the U21 fixture at the weekend provided plenty of clues. Northern Irish starlet Kieran Morrison was among those who did not feature, hinting at his potential first involvement with Slot's side.
One thing that's clear is that Slot has a wealth of options. Unlike Southampton, he has no enforced absentees to deal with at all — and even a second-string side should be strong enough to get the job done, hopefully with an exciting performance to boot.
