Bristol Rovers manager Steve Evans has now made an honest admission about 20-year-old Tottenham youngster Yusuf Akhamrich, one that shows he has always been a fan.

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping that the pathway they have chosen for many of their youngsters this season will begin to yield tangible results.

Several players are currently away from Hotspur Way as they continue to gain exposure to first-team football, an experience that is expected to accelerate their development.

Some have already started to settle into their new surroundings, with Yusuf Akhamrich at Bristol Rovers one of those catching the eye early on.

The 20-year-old grabbed a brace on his debut in League Two, quickly making an impression. He then scored his third goal in two games a few days later.

Steve Evans reveals past interest in Tottenham’s Yusuf Akhamrich

Following Bristol Rovers’ match against Newport County, head coach Steve Evans made an interesting admission about the Tottenham loanee.

According to the Bristol Post, Evans explained in his post-match comments that he had always wanted to sign Akhamrich during his time at Rotherham last season, but was ultimately informed by Spurs that the winger was not yet ready for senior football.

The manager added that he had continued to monitor the youngster closely, including during the 4-4 draw between Rovers and Tottenham Under-21s at The Mem, where Akhamrich was on the scoresheet.

However, despite interest from several clubs, Evans finally got his man, as Bristol Rovers were chosen as Akhamrich’s destination as he looks to continue his development away from north London.

What this loan could mean for Spurs

The hope for Tottenham is that Akhamrich continues to build on his strong start to life away from the club.

Spurs currently do not have an academy graduate who features consistently in the senior starting XI, and with several young talents out on loan, there is optimism that this could change in the near future.

Akhamrich’s next opportunity is set to come at the weekend when Bristol take on Chesterfield, with hopes that the Spurs winger can once again make a telling impact.
