Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney are both in agreement over what Tottenham could realistically achieve under Thomas Frank in his debut season.
Thomas Frank will be looking to make an immediate impression in his first season as Tottenham manager after replacing Ange Postecoglou in the dugout.
Postecoglou was dismissed following Tottenham’s worst-ever Premier League campaign, where Spurs slumped to a 17th-place finish, suffering 22 league defeats along the way.
Frank has already overseen his first two competitive matches in charge, with Tottenham falling short against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup, losing 4-3 on penalties after an entertaining encounter.
Spurs then recorded an opening-day victory over Burnley in the Premier League, scoring three goals and earning a clean sheet in the process.
Wayne Rooney backs Tottenham for Europe under Thomas Frank
With the Premier League season now underway, several pundits have been giving their take on where they believe Tottenham will finish.
Wayne Rooney, speaking after Spurs’ penalty defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup, was quick to make a confident prediction about Frank’s side, suggesting they have the quality to push for Europe.
Rooney told BBC MOTD: “I think the balance of the team looks a lot better, even just from that 90 minutes watching them play. The balance looks much better, so I think if they keep that balance, they can be challenging for Europe.”
Steven Gerrard agrees with Rooney over Tottenham’s chances
Steven Gerrard has also tipped Tottenham to challenge for a European spot in the Premier League this season, making it clear he believes Spurs are capable of securing fifth place.
The Liverpool legend named Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham as the four sides he expects to make up the top five alongside his former club, leaving no doubts about where he feels Spurs stand going into the new campaign.
Of course, securing UEFA Champions League qualification once again would be regarded as a huge success for Frank, who faces a demanding campaign where Tottenham will not only be competing domestically but also back on the Champions League stage.
