Steven Gerrard summed up the mood of every Liverpool fan as the Anfield legend’s wild celebrations were captured during Sunday’s win over Everton.

The Reds claimed bragging rights from the first-ever Merseyside derby at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Virgil van Dijk’s stoppage-time header sealing a crucial three points in the race for Champions League qualification.

Liverpool is now well set to secure a top-five finish, sitting seven points ahead of nearest rival Chelsea in the table and needing a maximum of nine points from the final five games of the season to guarantee a spot at Europe’s top table again.

The game had looked to have been heading for a draw, with Liverpool having been made to sweat by its neighbor until Van Dijk rose highest to head home with 100 minutes already gone.

Former captain Gerrard had the day off from his usual punditry duties and was watching the game from afar, but still celebrated in the same manner as he would have during his playing days.

Footage has been shared online of the Reds legend watching the game in a bar with a group of friends, with Gerrard jumping from his seat and bouncing with joy after Van Dijk’s late winner.

He wasn’t the only Liverpool legend who enjoyed the victory, with Robbie Fowler also reveling in the win as he took to social media after the game.

The win sets the Reds up perfectly ahead of what is set to be a decisive final month of the season, in which they will face each of their rivals for Champions League places in consecutive games.

Next up is Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday, but not before Arne Slot and his side enjoy a rare high point in an otherwise disappointing campaign.

"Throughout the season, all these games with all these games and the limited players available have hurt and cost us quite a lot of points,” Slot said after Sunday’s game. “But today is definitely a day for the fans to be happy. That's what we will be.

"We are going to enjoy it. My staff, my players and me. There is no difference between us and the fans; we would have loved to have had a better season than we've had.

"But for obvious reasons, we haven't, and we saw that today. How many times do you have two goalkeepers injured? That has been our season, but we managed to win, and that's the most important thing."
