Arsenal paid £55m plus add-ons to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, but a striker who they sold during the summer of 2024 has a higher estimated transfer value
Former Arsenal forward Mika Biereth's valuation has surged once again, despite a challenging start to the season. The 22-year-old spent three years on the books at the Gunners after signing from Fulham in 2021.
However, Biereth left the Emirates Stadium to sign for Sturm Graz in a £4million deal last summer after failing to make a single first-team appearance. During his time in north London, Biereth made the senior matchday squad four times - all in January 2022 - but didn't feature in any of those games.
After scoring 14 times in 25 appearances during the first half of the 2024/25 season for Sturm Graz, Monaco decided to swoop in and sign Biereth for £13m back in January. He continued his fine form into the latter end of the campaign, as he struck 13 goals in 19 matches for his new club to end with a combined 27 in 44 matches last term.
Although Biereth has struggled for form so far this season, scoring just once in 15 appearances for Monaco across all competitions, his value has increased compared to what it was during the summer.
Indeed, according to CIES Football Observatory, Biereth's transfer value has risen from £64m in August to as high as £66m. That is higher than the current worth of Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres, after the club splashed out £55m as a base fee to sign him from Sporting CP back in July.
Biereth last scored for Monaco in a 5-2 win against Metz back in September. He started the 4-1 defeat at home to Lens last time out and featured twice for Denmark during the international break. Monaco are next in action when they travel to face Rennes in Ligue 1 on Saturday evening.
As for Gyokeres, he has made a mixed start to life at the Emirates following his summer move from Sporting. The Swede has netted six times in 14 appearances this season.
The ex-Brighton man last found the net against Burnley earlier this month. He scored his side's second in a 2-0 win, though he was forced off at half-time after suffering a muscle issue.
"I am concerned because he hasn't had many muscular issues and he had to leave the pitch," Arteta said on November 3. He was feeling something and that’s obviously never a good sign.
"Especially for a player that is very, very explosive, so we are digging in a little bit more to understand where we are in terms of the injury and we will announce it when we know more."
A return date for Gyokeres is unclear, though the Gunners are hoping the forward can return as soon as possible ahead of a packed fixture list after the international break.
