Supercomputer predicts how likely Roberto De Zerbi is to win his first Tottenham game

Opta’s supercomputer has predicted Tottenham’s chances of picking up their first league win of the calendar year at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

There is a lot of anticipation at Spurs leading up to Sunday’s fixture, despite the perilous position that the club currently finds itself in the standings.

The Lilywhites are the start of another new era, with Roberto De Zerbi taking charge of the club from Igor Tudor, who was put out of his misery after just 43 days in the Tottenham job.

There is a big question mark on how we will see De Zerbi set up Spurs, and the Lilywhites go into the game as underdogs.

Opta consider Sunderland favourites to beat Tottenham

According to Opta’s Supercomputer, the most likely result at the Stadium of Light is a home win, with Sunderland being handed a 43.2 per cent chance of winning the encounter.

Tottenham have been handed just a 30.1 per cent chance of registering their first Premier League win of 2026, while the draw is deemed the least likely result at 26.7 per cent.

Despite the possible effect of a new manager bounce, Opta suggests that it is going to be hard for De Zerbi’s men to pick up points in the North East.

Will we see a reaction from Spurs after Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival?

The Italian seems to have made a good first impression on the squad, with reports indicating that some Spurs players were raving about the first few training sessions under De Zerbi.

That is certainly not something we heard in the early days of Thomas Frank or Igor Tudor, and the Tottenham hierarchy will be hopeful that we see more commitment and desire from the players.

The Italian faces a tough choice on how to set Tottenham up, and pundits have warned De Zerbi that he would be ‘daft’ to look to take the game to Sunderland.
