Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has called on his players to show a few of his key principles in the final weeks of the season

Liam Rosenior wants his Chelsea squad to adopt some of the club's greats in terms of their attitudes in the final weeks of the season as they fight for a place in the Champions League.

With six matches of the Premier League season left to play, the Blues find themselves four points adrift of the top five as they hunt for a way back in Europe's elite. A run of five defeats in their last six matches has put Chelsea in a precarious position going into this evening's showdown with third-place Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. Rosenior has previously described Man United icon Sir Alex Ferguson as one of his idols in the footballing world and believes he had a squad with all the right principles to be successful.

Rosenior also cited Chelsea legends John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, describing them as humble with no ego attached. The Blues head coach has called on his players to show something similar in order to be successful.

When asked about Ferguson and what inspired Rosenior, a United supporter growing up, about him, the head coach said: "It's amazing the things I've just said about what you go back to: your care values and principles, hard work, lack of ego, strong values. Not just Manchester United in their period, this football club in their period, when you see the lack of ego in this team when it was at its best.

"With John, with Frank, with Didier, they were a team. It wasn't a team of egos. There's a team of big personalities who fought for the shirt. I think that's what we need to show now."

Asked if he thinks he has those characters available to him, Rosenior replied: "Yeah."

Rosenior has been at Stamford Bridge for just over three months but already some of the supporters are questioning whether he is the right man for the job. Asked if that is unfair, he replied: "I was questioned after three minutes of joining this club, let alone three months."

Rosenior added: "The noise? If I couldn't deal with the noise, I wouldn't be sat in this chair. I'm aware. I'm so aware of what things would be like, in terms of the noise, for me, if things, which is natural for every manager, go in a different way to what you want. It's absolutely fine. I'm confident in the project. I'm confident knowing what we want to do in the future. I'm confident in this job.

"I don't think there's a manager in world football who hasn't gone through a time like this at a certain stage of the season and it's up to me and the football club and the team to show what we're about."

Chelsea are in desperate need of a positive result in tonight's match with Man United, as they look to end a run of three straight league defeats. Despite his team's poor form of late, Rosenior has the belief that his players can go and win their final six matches of the Premier League campaign, though has warned them "time is running out".

"That's the great thing about the quality we have in this team, we are capable," said Rosenior. "We are capable. But to be capable is one thing, to go and produce it is another. Time is running out.

"We need to make sure we get each performance as perfect as possible in every aspect of the game, and in the knowledge that if we do that, we have the potential to win every game between now and the rest of the season."

The Blues will be without Reece James, Filip Jorgensen, Levi Colwill and Jamie Gittens for the visit of Man United due to injuries. Trevoh Chalobah returned to training this week and a late decision will be made on the Chelsea defender's fitness.

Enzo Fernandez is in contention to return to the squad after he served a two-match in-house ban after he publicly flirted with a move to Real Madrid during the international break.
