Thierry Henry produced a generous gift for Jamie Carragher as the Liverpool legend celebrated his 48th birthday earlier this week – but the gift came with a warning.

Carragher was on duty for CBS Sports on Wednesday – his birthday – as the American network provided its coverage of the final Champions League game day of the league stage. As always, he was joined by Kate Abdo, Micah Richards and Arsenal legend Henry.

Carragher wore a party hat for some of the broadcast – and it was during that section that he was informed of his gift by Henry: access to the Gunners great's private box at the Emirates Stadium for the upcoming game between Arsenal and Wigan Athletic.

Carragher's son, James, plays as a center-back for League One side Wigan Athletic, and the Greater Manchester club is due to travel to North London in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Feb. 15.

"There you go, that's my present," Henry said to Carragher as he informed him of the gift. "But if you go to the game – obviously you're going to go to the box, that's the present. But please, don't celebrate, you can't celebrate if your son scores or if you win.

"I would like to keep the box because if you overcelebrate being there watching your son trying to stop the Arsenal, I might lose the box."

Henry added: "If his son scores and somehow it becomes a game that stays in the history – which I don't want to happen – I don't know how he's not going to jump over and celebrate with his son."

He then turned to Carragher and asked: "If your son scores the winner and knocks Arsenal out, what do you do?" Carragher responded: "How high is the box?!"

James Carragher was in the Liverpool academy from 2011 until 2017, when he joining Wigan's academy. He is closing in on 10 years' association with Latics, but it is only since the start of last season that he has become a regular fixture for the club.

The 23-year-old had spells at Oldham Athletic and Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2022-23 and 2023-24, respectively, before breaking into the Wigan team last season.

Carragher has captained Wigan on numerous occasions this season in the absence of injured club captain Jason Kerr.
