As expected, one of the first questions in Thomas Frank’s press conference this afternoon was about Tottenham’s pursuit of Xavi Simons.
While many Spurs fans were fuming and fearing the worst after the club was snubbed by Eberechi Eze last week, Frank maintained that he is confident signings will arrive through the door.
The Dane has proven to be right, with Tottenham spectacularly hijacking Xavi Simons from under Chelsea’s noses.
According to reports, Spurs have agreed to pay a guaranteed fee of €60m (£52m) for Simons and have also given RB Leipzig a ‘significant’ sell-on clause on the attacking midfielder.
Thomas Frank quizzed about Xavi Simons’ Tottenham arrival
The Netherlands international is a much-needed signing for Frank, particularly given that Tottenham’s only two recognised number tens, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, are on the treatment table.
Tottenham fans will be hoping that Simons can thrive in Frank’s fluid attack, and the Spurs head coach has now given his thoughts on the club’s latest addition.
When asked about the signing of Simons, the Tottenham boss responded (Tottenham Official): “I can confirm we are working very hard to get someone over the line. Right now, I am happy to speak more about Djed and other players in the current squad.
“I hope they get their good news later today, we are trying to sign players, we are out in the market – only if we can improve the squad. If not, I am happy with the squad.”
He added: “I think we are close to signing someone, but I want to speak about the players in the team.”
Spurs fans might catch a glimpse of Simons at the stadium tomorrow
While the Dutchman looks unlikely to be registered in time to feature against Bournemouth, the fans at the stadium will get a glimpse of the new signing tomorrow.
Reports indicate that Spurs are planning to unveil Simons at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow during the clash against the Cherries.
The 22-year-old’s arrival has certainly changed the mood of the Spurs fan base, and Frank will be hoping that it leads to an electric atmosphere tomorrow.
