Thomas Frank outlines Tottenham’s plans for Mason Melia as new signing arrives

Thomas Frank has opened up on Tottenham Hotspur’s plans for 18-year-old Mason Melia set to join Spurs officially in January.

Tottenham Hotspur will not have to wait too long for a new arrival to come through the door when the January transfer window opens.

This is because Spurs already completed the signing of sought-after forward Mason Melia from St Patrick’s Athletic for £1.6m plus add-ons back in February.

The forward could not join in the summer and had to bide his time until this winter because of post-Brexit rules that allow 18-year-olds to join new clubs.

Thomas Frank on Tottenham’s plan for Mason Melia

With Melia now set to arrive at the club at the turn of the year, Thomas Frank has spoken about the process Tottenham will go through before deciding the next steps for the young forward.

Explaining that several factors still need to be assessed once Mason Melia arrives at the club, Frank outlined how the decision-making process will unfold.

The Spurs boss told the club media channel: “We meet him in the club first here on 1 January. There are a lot of moving parts and then when we know all of the moving parts then we will take the final decision on what we are doing.”

What Mason Melia could offer Spurs long-term

Melia looks like a player with significant potential, given his impressive performances at St Patrick’s Athletic, where he developed a habit of finding the back of the net.

The forward managed 13 goals and four assists from 35 league matches in Ireland (you can watch all of Mason Melia’s goals here), highlighting his natural ability to sniff out chances.

He appears to be one for the future, with time needed to adapt to the Premier League, but Spurs fans have every reason to feel optimistic.
