Tottenham are set for a crucial clash against Manchester United this weekend, and Thomas Frank has hinted that one of his brightest young stars is only just getting started.

Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up to welcome Manchester United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend, as they prepare for their final match before the last international break of the year.

Spurs will be hoping to secure another win before the pause, having ended their two-year run of failing to win games heading into international breaks, with a 2-1 victory over Leeds United back in October.

Frank will also be looking for a similar display from his side that impressed in midweek, when they swept aside Danish champions Copenhagen with a convincing 4-0 victory.

Thomas Frank praises Xavi Simons performance for Tottenham

Amongst the standout performers on Tuesday night was Xavi Simons, who was named player of the match after delivering his most complete display since completing his move to north London.

Thomas Frank has backed the Dutchman to build on that showing, suggesting there is even more to come from the midfielder, whose confidence will undoubtedly be lifted after that performance.

Speaking to the official Tottenham Hotspur channel, Frank praised Simons’ growing confidence and explained why it could help him reach the next level.

He said, “I think every player needs confidence. When you go to a new club, it is not always that easy to hit the ground running. But the more confidence you get, the better you play. I thought he had a good performance. It is a good step, but there is more to come from him.”

Xavi Simons shows his quality ahead of Manchester United

Simons definitely silenced his critics with that Champions League display, where he grabbed the assist for Tottenham’s opening goal.

Spurs supporters believe that the Dutchman, who featured for a little over 60 minutes, was every bit as effective as anyone else on the pitch.

In the Premier League, however, the physical nature of the games has posed a challenge for Simons so far this season. Yet, with Manchester United up next, another top performance from the £51 million signing would represent another significant step forward.
