Thomas Frank reveals whether James Maddison could still play for Tottenham this season

Thomas Frank has shed light on James Maddison’s rehabilitation and when Tottenham are likely to see Dominic Solanke back fit.

Tottenham’s injury list has now grown to double-digits, with the situation being almost as bad as it was during the peak injury crisis last season.

However, the deeper squad the Lilywhites now have has meant that the absentees have not hurt the side as much as they did last term, and Thomas Frank has refused to use the injury situation as an excuse.

Among the absentees are several long-term ones, including James Maddison, who suffered an ACL injury during Tottenham’s pre-season.

Thomas Frank sheds light on when James Maddison could be back for Tottenham

It has been reported by some sources over the past couple of months that Maddison is expected to miss almost the entirety of this season.

However, the Tottenham midfielder has posted some promising injury updates of late, which may give some supporters hope that he could return sooner than expected.

When asked if he expects Maddison to play for Spurs this season, Frank has now said (via Football.London): “This season? Er.. that I don’t know. The short answer would be maybe. He got the injury on [August 3]. I think we need to get past Christmas to see how quick he is going.  Normally, you would say nine months, as I understand it, without me being a doctor. So, let’s see.”

Frank provides a disappointing Dominic Solanke update

Solanke decided to have surgery on his ankle a month ago, and the hope at the time was that he would be available after the November international break.

However, Frank has now admitted that the England striker will not be fit to start the North London derby at the Emirates on November 23, which is the fixture that follows the international break.

When asked if he will be back after the break, the Spurs head coach responded: “When he will be back, it’s very unlikely that when he’s back for the first game, he will start. That would probably not be the right way to do it.

“I haven’t seen any player do that when they’ve been out for three or four months. Most likely when he’s back, he will come off the bench and then we will take it from there.”
