Arne Slot has lost one of his biggest supporters in the Premier League after Thomas Frank was fired by Tottenham.

The former Brentford boss has been dismissed after eight months in charge in north London, having taken over from Ange Postecoglou last summer. The decision comes after Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle on Tuesday, with just two wins under their belt from their last 17 league games.

Tottenham sits just five points above the relegation zone in the Premier League, with Frank having been under considerable pressure from his own fans for some time now amid a dismal home record.

Like Frank, Slot has also come under pressure for his job at Anfield this season, although the Liverpool boss certainly hasn’t faced the same vitriol from supporters.

Nevertheless, with the Reds struggling in their quest to secure Champions League qualification for next season, speculation is growing about Slot’s future, with some pundits even suggesting he needs to win the Champions League in order to save his job.

Frank though gave him his backing earlier this season, and insisted that Slot would find a way to get Liverpool out of its slump.

“Arne is clearly an unbelievable coach. What he did with Feyenoord, Liverpool, incredible,” Frank said back in November.

“So he will, 1,000 percent, find a way out of that. I don’t know him personally, but he will stay calm, he and his coaching staff will find a solution and they will go again.

“In football, some managers, some clubs, are privileged not to have too many setbacks, maybe it’s just one game, others have a big spell. So yes, there will be setbacks and how you come back from them is the key.

“I agree with you that I think sometimes one game is like ‘oh, it’s a disaster’, but it’s probably a little bit in between. I’m maybe not the best coach in the world after we beat City away, probably not the worst coach in the world after we lost a game.

“So that’s just the way it is. It’s how we build something over time.”

Unfortunately for Frank, he was unable to find a way to turn things around for himself, with Spurs now on the lookout for a new manager. Roberto De Zerbi looks to be an immediate favorite for the job, having left Marseille on Tuesday.

Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on developments in north London, with Tottenham set to visit Anfield next month in a game that could be crucial to the Reds’ Champions League hopes.
