Alexander Isak's injury could force Liverpool to look for another forward in the January transfer window, with the club facing an anxious wait over his MRI results

Despite spending $260 million on strikers during the summer transfer window, Liverpool could seek further reinforcements in January after Alexander Isak suffered a serious injury.
Liverpool signed Isak from Newcastle for a Premier League record $170 million in the summer, after already splashing $93 million on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. Both forwards scored in a 2-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday, but Isak hobbled off with an injury.
The club fears that Isak has broken his leg following a challenge by Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven and is awaiting MRI results to assess the extent of the damage. Ekitke will now lead the line for Liverpool, but the club could turn toward the transfer market once again.

However, head coach Arne Slot admitted that they were lacking wide options, with the team missing Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.
With wide options limited due to injuries and Salah's participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, things became even worse when Isak hobbled off. Liverpool has been linked with several forward options ahead of next summer, but could move in January given the current state of affairs.
Antoine Semenyo
Several Premier League clubs are heavily linked with Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, and the Ghana international has enjoyed a fast start to the 2025-26 season. Semenyo has eight goals and three assists in 16 Premier League appearances.
Semenyo signed a long-term extension at Bournemouth this summer, which initially suggested that he would remain in the south of England for several years to come. However, part of the contract includes a $87 million release clause, which must be triggered in the first two weeks of January.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham are reportedly interested in Semenyo. According to The Guardian, the winger would prefer a move to Liverpool.
Michael Olise
Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise, with the French national team star thriving since joining the Bundesliga champions. Olise has already played in the Premier League, having showcased his skill set for Crystal Palace.
While Olise remains a desirable option, Bayern has no plans to sell the winger. According to The Athletic, Bayern deliberately excluded a release clause from Olise's contract.

His current deal expires in 2029, having joined Bayern for $61 million in 2024; however, the German club is already looking to extend it as soon as possible. Olise is now worth approximately $150 million in the current market, according to Transfermarkt.
Franculino Dju
Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing 21-year-old prospect Franculino Dju, who has also been scouted by Bayern. According to Christian Falk, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund are tracking the young forward, and he could be available for around $35 million.

Dju plays for the Guinea-Bissau national team and has 21 goals in 30 games for FC Midtjylland this season. The Danish club signed Dju on a free transfer in 2023, arriving from the Benfica academy.
Guinea-Bissau failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, making him an even more desirable option. Dju also has three goals in five Europa League appearances this season.
