Tim Sherwood aims strange dig at Richarlison despite scoring a Tottenham brace

2 hours ago 1

Tim Sherwood was not pleased with one thing Richarlison did against Burnley, even though the striker scored a brilliant brace to send Tottenham on their way to a 3-0 win.

Richarlison silenced his critics with an outstanding performance against the Clartes, showing Thomas Frank that he is more than capable of challenging Dominic Solanke for a place in the starting line-up.

The Brazilian not only produced two finishes that any striker in the world will be proud of, but he also showcased his all-around game, holding the ball up well and being involved in some smart interplay.

On the back of this performance from the former Everton man, it is fair to say that Solanke may not simply walk back into the team when he is fully fit, but Sherwood did not like what the 28-year-old did when he came off.

Tim Sherwood questions Richarlison’s attitude after Tottenham sub

The Brazil international was understandably not best pleased when he saw his number being held up on the substitutes board on 71 minutes.

The striker slowly trotted off the pitch, looking disappointed at not having the opportunity to get his hat-trick, and Sherwood was not impressed by his attitude.

The former Tottenham midfielder and interim head coach said on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (at 4.30 pm): “He’s come off the pitch, I think it would have been planned at this time to give [Dominic] Solanke some minutes. They’re going to need Solanke as well as Richarlison to help score the goals that they need to take them where they want to be.

“He’s come off the pitch, but you wouldn’t have guessed he’s scored two, one spectacular goal and the all-important first goal, because he’s come off the pitch and he hasn’t got the chance of a hat-trick. Unfortunately, you’re not Harry Kane yet, son. Get yourself off and rest.”

Richarlison’s disappointment was understandable

You want your strikers to be hungry for goals, and it was only natural that Richarlison was disappointed at not being allowed an opportunity to net what would have been his first hat-trick in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt.

Although the disappointment was lit large in the 28-year-old’s face, he certainly did not sulk or complain after being substituted.

Richarlison will take plenty of confidence from that performance, and there is no reason why he cannot score a lot of goals for Tottenham this season, provided he stays injury-free.
