Timber, Calafiori, Havertz - Latest Arsenal injury news and return dates for Aston Villa

1 hour ago 3

Mikel Arteta will be hopeful of three huge Arsenal injury returns for the Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Tuesday evening

Arsenal and Aston Villa both head into their huge Premier League clash quite depleted through injury and suspension blows. Just three points separate the two teams with Unai Emery looking to secure a double over his former club.

A last-gasp Emiliano Buendia strike helped Villa to a win over the Gunners last month and therefore Mikel Arteta's side will be looking for revenge. They may be forced to try and get exactly that without Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber after both missed the weekend win over Brighton.

Late fitness tests will likely be conducted to determine their availability with Gabriel Magalhaes and Kai Havertz possibly set for similar, with the former in line to start. Villa have not suffered too many major injury problems, but one-match bans for Matty Cash and Boubacar Kamara will see them miss the trip to Emirates Stadium.

With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Arsenal injury news ahead of their title clash against Villa...

Jurrien Timber

Timber is an injury doubt to feature against Villa having missed the win over Brighton. He will have had one week to recover from the issue and given the fixture's importance, will likely return.

What Arteta has said: "In the last part of the [Palace] game [on Tuesday], he felt something and could not carry on. So, he's out."

Potential return date: Aston Villa (H) - Tuesday, December 30.

Riccardo Calafiori

Just prior to kick-off on Saturday, Calafiori was taken out of the starting XI with Arteta later revealing he had suffered an issue the previous day. With such a swift turnaround, and Myles Lewis-Skelly available, it seems unlikely he will be risked.

What Arteta has said: "It's something that he felt yesterday [Friday], something very awkward that happened, and today in the warm-up he wasn’t comfortable."

Potential return date: Liverpool (H) - Thursday, January 8.

Kai Havertz

Arteta is on the verge of a big injury boost with Havertz so close to a long-awaited injury return. The latest update and his appearance last week in training suggests he will be named in the matchday squad for Villa.

What Arteta has said: "I think it will be a matter of days, not weeks... Let's see in the next step how he responds. He's a player that we missed a lot, a player that brings the team into a different dimension. So, I'm really happy to have him back very soon."

Potential return date: Aston Villa (H) - Tuesday, December 30.

Ben White

White is midway through his recovery from a thigh injury with Arteta likely to be hopeful of having him back for the visit of Liverpool

What Arteta has said: "It's not a major [hamstring] injury, but it will keep him out for a few games. Ben is a really fast healer as well, so let's hope that we're going to have him in the next few games."

Potential return date: Liverpool (H) - Thursday, January 8.

Cristhian Mosquera

Mosquera is also making steady progress but is expected to be absent for a little bit longer.

What Arteta has said: "He's going to be out for weeks. Unfortunately, it's much more than what we expected. But the player was feeling it, so he's going to be out for weeks."

Potential return date: January 2026.

Max Dowman

Dowman suffered an injury during a behind-closed-doors friendly, though a return next month is the hope.

What Arteta has said: "Max picked up an injury last weekend and had to come off. So he did some scans, and he is going to be out for weeks."

Potential return date: January 2026.
