Todd Boehly has been speaking about Chelsea, their transfer activity and what the future holds for the club with the American billionaire conducting a rare interview
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has revealed he is "pretty excited" about what the future holds for his football club in a rare interview with the American billionaire.
Boehly, alongside Clearlake Capital, bought the Blues in May 2022 for an estimated £4.25billion from Roman Abramovich - ending the Russian's 19-year ownership of the club. Since being in charge at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have spent around £1.5billion on transfer fees with a new model in place for the club to bring in the world's brightest young talent and develop them into superstars.
Chelsea clinched their first success of the BlueCo era in 2024/25, with Enzo Maresca leading his young group of players to triumphs in the Conference League and Club World Cup. The club's hierarchy are very happy with how things have gone with Maresca in charge, but are still hoping for more in the years to come.
A sentiment made clear by Boehly, who stated his excitement to watch his team develop in the years to come. "You're going to continue to watch our team evolve and grow," Boehly said to Financial Review. "We've got them together for a long time. I'm pretty excited about what the future looks like."
Winning the Club World Cup, the first edition of the tournament in its new format, over the summer was a huge moment for Chelsea and the BlueCo ownership. Not only that, but the Blues humiliated European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the final in New Jersey; winning by three goals to nil in a dominant performance.
Boehly recognised just how big of a moment that was for the club and the ownership. And in an in an interview with talkSPORT over the summer, the American businessman explained how these sort of moments were the plan when jobs inside the club were being reshuffled following their takeover.
"Well, we couldn't have wished for a better outcome for the boys, who have done such good work and trained so hard, really came together in America under Enzo's leadership and his direction," Boehly said. "No one gave us a chance to beat PSG, and the boys really thrived and grew on that. Watching them come together over the last couple of weeks in America has been very special.
"I think the form that you've seen is everything we hoped for when we were putting this together with [co-sporting directors] Laurence [Stewart] and Paul [Winstanley]. Behdad [Eghbali, co-owner] and I couldn't be more grateful for the success that they've had, and for all Chelsea fans everywhere."
