Chelsea's activity in the transfer market has been nothing short of remarkable since Todd Boehly's takeover. In just over three years under American ownership, the Blues have brought in a staggering 50 senior players, with more transfer incomings and outgoings planned for this summer.
This is a stark contrast to the period between the 2016-17 title win and the 2022 takeover, during which Chelsea signed fewer than 30 players. Even accounting for the year-long transfer ban imposed on the club, this is barely half as many players over one additional transfer window.
Jorrel Hato, the Dutch defender, became the 50th senior signing this summer, including both permanent and loan fee arrivals. And yes, for those wondering, Joao Felix is counted twice - once for his 2022-23 loan and again for the permanent move in 2024-25, although neither stint can be deemed successful.
To break it down, Boehly's first season saw 17 new faces, followed by 12 in 2023-24, 13 in 2024-25 and eight (so far) this summer - Dario Essugo, Liam Delap, Mamadou Sarr, Kendry Paez, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Estevao Willian and Hato.
For the sake of clarity, Chelsea have also sold a significant number of players over the same period. However, the £645.5 million recouped, according to Transfermarkt, falls considerably short of the £1.44 billion spent - and that's before the nearly £53m earmarked for Denner and Geovany Quenda next summer, reports the Mirror.
Six of this summer's eight signings are still at Stamford Bridge - with the exceptions being Sarr and Paez who have joined Strasbourg on loan - but here's what's happened to the rest.
Raheem Sterling
The first senior signing of the Boehly era, Sterling did contribute some goals under various managers. However, Blues' boss Enzo Maresca deemed him surplus to requirements, and a disappointing year on loan at Arsenal is unlikely to convince many to take a punt on him this summer, especially as his hefty Chelsea contract still has two years left.
Kalidou Koulibaly
The former Napoli star departed just before the Italian club ended their long wait for a Scudetto, and only managed a year in west London. Chelsea took a loss on their £33m investment to send him to Al-Hilal, where he continues to play today.
Gaga Slonina
Firmly categorised as 'one for the future', American goalkeeper Slonina has been sent out on loan three times without making his senior Chelsea debut. The club have signed several other keepers since, raising doubts about whether he'll fulfil his potential elsewhere.
Carney Chukwuemeka
After a standout season with Aston Villa and an impressive summer with England's Under-19s, Chukwuemeka has made 32 appearances for Chelsea and scored one Premier League goal. However, he ended last season on loan at Dortmund, and it would be surprising to see him add to his 23 league games for his parent club in the near future.
Marc Cucurella
Cucurella's £60m transfer from Brighton raised eyebrows, as the Spaniard struggled in his first two seasons. However, he found his form last term and has secured a place in Enzo Maresca's system.
Cesare Casadei
Casadei was pursued for some time before joining in 2022 but failed to demonstrate much Premier League quality. The former Inter Milan prospect returned to Italy in February, signing for Torino.
Wesley Fofana
High-profile signing Fofana has been hampered by injuries over the past three years. The £75m centre-back showed promise at the start of last season, but further setbacks mean he's only managed 34 appearances in all competitions for the club.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Aubameyang was signed by Thomas Tuchel just days before the manager's dismissal and made a swift exit the following summer. He has enjoyed better fortunes with Marseille and Al-Qadsiah, returning to the former for a second stint in July.
Denis Zakaria
Swiss midfielder Zakaria didn't make much of an impact during a season-long move from Juventus. He left Juve for Monaco in the summer of 2023, where he has had more success in Ligue 1.
Benoit Badiashile
Signed in January 2023 to cover for the injured Wesley Fofana, Badiashile has struggled to cement his place as a first-choice defender. Despite being a regular feature in last season's Conference League run, the £35m signing's limited league appearances suggest he may be on his way out this summer.
David Datro Fofana
Fofana's signing from Molde was puzzling from the start. The striker never really got a fair chance at Chelsea, having been loaned out three times in the past two seasons, most recently to Goztepe in Turkey. His future at the club remains uncertain.
Andrey Santos
Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos' journey to Chelsea's Premier League squad has been a long one. After a challenging loan spell at Nottingham Forest and a successful stint with Strasbourg, he finally made his Chelsea debut in the Club World Cup.
Mykhailo Mudryk
Mudryk hasn't featured for Chelsea since the close of 2024, struggling to justify his hefty transfer fee. In June, he faced an FA charge over alleged anti-doping violations. The winger denied knowingly violating any rules but could face a lengthy suspension if the charge is upheld.
Noni Madueke
Madueke, one of the more successful signings, joined from PSV Eindhoven in 2023 and already boasts a Premier League hat-trick to his name. However, with Chelsea looking to raise funds this summer, a £48m bid from Arsenal proved too tempting to resist and he has since made his way to the Emirates Stadium.
Malo Gusto
French full-back Gusto has had a mixed performance since his move from Lyon, but there have been enough promising moments. Moreover, his availability has been particularly beneficial given Reece James' ongoing injury issues.
Enzo Fernandez
Some might argue that Chelsea paid over the odds for Enzo Fernandez, but he has managed to secure a place in the Blues' first team. The £107m player marked his 100th game for the club last season, and netted a crucial goal in the Conference League final victory.
Joao Felix
Joao Felix's loan spell under Graham Potter was marked by flashes of brilliance amidst frustration. His permanent transfer more than a year later was... well, he's currently at Al-Nassr, so draw your own conclusions.
Nicolas Jackson
Jackson was brought in with an eye on the future, only to be unexpectedly thrust into the role of starting striker. He hasn't performed as one might expect of a senior No. 9, and Chelsea are now open to offers after bringing in two new strikers this summer.
Christopher Nkunku
Nkunku's injury problems contributed to Jackson's increased playing time. The Frenchman has struggled to return to his pre-injury form, and it's possible he could be playing his football elsewhere next season.
Diego Moreira
This one is a real blink-and-you'd-miss-it situation. Portuguese youngster Moreira made just one appearance for Chelsea before going on loan to Lyon, and then secured a permanent move to Strasbourg last summer.
Jimmy Jay-Morgan
Striker Jimmy Jay-Morgan has been earmarked as one for the future after joining the Blues from Southampton at the end of the 2023 January transfer window. Although he's yet to make a senior appearance for the west Londoners, he did feature 16 times on loan at Gillingham in League Two last season, scoring twice.
Angelo Gabriel
Brazilian midfielder Angelo was immediately loaned out to Strasbourg upon signing for Chelsea, and his impressive performances there led Al-Nassr to table a £20m offer. This was sufficient for Chelsea to approve the sale, making a profit despite Angelo never making a first team appearance.
Lesley Ugochukwu
After a few appearances under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea felt Ugochukwu would benefit from more game time on loan. He featured in 26 league matches for relegated Southampton last season, netting once, and has since returned to west London.
Axel Disasi
Capable of playing at centre-back or right-back, Disasi saw plenty of action under Pochettino. However, his fortunes changed under Maresca, with the Frenchman ending last season on loan at Aston Villa and now facing an uncertain future.
Robert Sanchez
While Sanchez's performances for Chelsea have been inconsistent, he retains the support of his manager. The Spanish international has managed to fend off competition from Djordje Petrovic and Filip Jorgensen to secure his spot as the Blues' first-choice goalkeeper.
Moises Caicedo
Chelsea emerged victorious in the race to sign Caicedo, who arrived in a Premier League record transfer from Brighton. After a slow start, he became one of Chelsea's standout performers last season.
Romeo Lavia
An injury-plagued debut season left many pondering what could have been for the Belgian midfielder. He clocked up more minutes last term, but the upcoming season will be crucial for him.
Deivid Washingon
The former Santos youngster has had limited exposure to Chelsea's first team, but has shown promise with the Under-21s. Now aged 20, he's returned to Santos on loan until the end of 2025.
Djordje Petrovic
Serbian goalkeeper Petrovic posed a challenge to keeper Sanchez towards the close of the 2023-24 season, but spent the following season on loan at Strasbourg. He's now made a permanent move, filling the shoes of former Chelsea loanee Kepa at Bournemouth.
Cole Palmer
Chelsea's decision to splash out on Palmer from Manchester City raised some eyebrows initially, but his impressive tally of 43 goals in two seasons quickly silenced any critics as he quickly became one of the Premier League's biggest stars.
Omari Kellyman
Kellyman was signed from Villa in the summer of 2024, with Ian Maatsen moving in the opposite direction. However, injuries have hindered the England youth international's ability to showcase his talent.
Tosin Adarabioyo
A savvy acquisition from local rivals Fulham, Tosin clocked up 22 league appearances last season. The question now is whether the arrival of new signing Hato will limit his game time.
Marc Guiu
Spanish forward Guiu, an opportunistic signing from Barcelona, was never intended to be a starting striker. With Liam Delap and Joao Pedro joining this summer, Guiu looks set to depart, either on loan or permanently.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
Dewsbury-Hall followed Maresca from Leicester but never quite seemed to fit in. Chelsea are likely to make a loss on the £30m midfielder if he departs this summer.
Renato Veiga
Former Basel player Veiga only lasted half a season before being loaned out. While there were rumours of Juventus making the move permanent, those whispers have quietened down and the versatile Portuguese's future remains uncertain.
Caleb Wiley
Young American defender Wiley has had loan spells at Strasbourg and Watford since his transfer from MLS team Atlanta United. Having recently finished a second loan stint at Watford, he is set to spend the forthcoming season at Vicarage Road.
Filip Jorgensen
Jorgensen made 24 appearances last season after his move from Villarreal, with the majority of his game time coming in the Conference League. The 23-year-old is expected to provide competition for Sanchez for another season.
Aaron Anselmino
Argentine centre-back Anselmino, who was signed amidst much excitement from Boca Juniors, returned to his old club on loan before finally making his Chelsea debut in the Club World Cup. It seems Maresca doesn't deem him ready for Premier League action yet, and another loan move appears likely.
Pedro Neto
Despite already having numerous wingers, Chelsea's acquisition of Neto from Wolves suggests he is very much part of their plans. The sale of fellow winger Madueke only strengthens this notion.
Jadon Sancho
Sancho's loan spell from Manchester United had its ups and downs, including a goal in the Conference League final. However, Chelsea chose not to retain him long-term, and his parent club United are also keen on a sale - with Juventus appearing to be the most probable destination.
Mike Penders
Belgian goalkeeper Penders joined Chelsea last summer with a high-profile reputation, but was allowed to remain at Genk for an additional year. He has now finalised a season-long loan move to Strasbourg, where he is anticipated to step into Petrovic's role.
Mathis Amougou
Amougou, a French midfielder, was signed mid-season last February but only managed two appearances. He has already been moved on, with Strasbourg securing a permanent deal.
