Defeat to Bayern Munich has not altered Chelsea’s ambitions in the Champions League this season, with the Blues still targeting victory in the competition.
Enzo Maresca’s side were handed a tough start to their group-stage campaign on Wednesday and came up short against the German champions. A fine Cole Palmer strike wasn’t enough, as Chelsea slipped to a 3-1 defeat.
Trevoh Chalobah’s own goal gave Bayern the lead, before Harry Kane scored twice — either side of Palmer’s effort — to secure a convincing win for the hosts.
There is still a long way to go in the group phase, and speaking after the match, Tosin Adarabioyo insisted the squad remain confident of making a strong run in the tournament.
“No, not at all,” he said when asked if the defeat had dented belief. “I feel that we have full belief that we’re fully capable of achieving a lot in this competition.
“Whenever we’re playing, whenever we’re fighting for anything, we go all the way. We fight for the highest, we aim for the highest — and that is winning the Champions League.”

Chelsea produced some promising moments on the night, but Bayern’s ruthlessness at key stages proved decisive. As has often been the case in recent seasons, Maresca named a starting XI featuring several young players, many of whom were making their first Champions League appearance for the club.
Tosin, however, rejected suggestions that inexperience played a role in the decisive lapses. “I think you guys know that age has absolutely nothing to do with it now,” he said. “You saw what we did in the Club World Cup to become world champions.
“We had a young team then and a young team today. We’re just always out there to fight.”
Chelsea now have the chance to respond quickly when they visit Old Trafford on Saturday evening in the Premier League, where they will be favourites against a struggling Manchester United side.
