Tottenham alarm bells as Chelsea move to hijack Mohammed Kudus transfer

Tottenham’s worst fears are now coming to fruition as Chelsea are now reportedly making a move to hijack the Lilywhites’ pursuit of Mohammed Kudus.

Tottenham have already had two offers rejected for Mohammed Kudus, with the Lilywhites having offered £50m plus £5m in add-ons to West Ham, who are demanding £65m for the winger.

Earlier this week, it emerged that Chelsea are prepared to challenge Spurs for Kudus but the Blues are not able to afford a straight cash deal due to their PSR issues.

However, on Friday, journalist Dean Jones revealed that there is concern at Spurs that Chelsea may raise the required funds to hijack the Kudus deal.

Jones explained that the Blues are looking to cash in on the likes of Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku, and Tottenham Hotspur are fearful that this could be a prelude to them making a move for the Hammers star.

Chelsea have opened negotiations with West Ham for Mohammed Kudus

Journalist Simon Phillips has now revealed on his Patreon that the West London club are working to try and sign Kudus ‘right now’.

However, he warns that the Blues have to be fast as Spurs are ‘advancing on a deal’ for the 24-year-old while Newcastle United and Saudi Pro League clubs are also monitoring the situation.

Phillps explains that Chelsea have already had a £50m offer for Kudus rejected earlier in his summer and have since started speaking to the East London club about including some of their players in the deal.

The journalist adds that West Ham are interested in some of Enzo Maresca’s players and any deal to take the Ghana international to Stamford Bridge could see players move in the other direction.

Why Tottenham may still have an advantage in Kudus deal

This report from Phillips contradicts the updates we heard earlier this week which suggested that West Ham had turned down Chelsea’s approach since they preferred a straight cash deal for Kudus.

That was cited as the reason why Tottenham held the upper hand over Maresca’s men in the race for the former Ajax man, with the Blues preferring a part-exchange deal.

However, the concern for the Lilywhites is that selling Kudus to Chelsea over Spurs will go down better with the West Ham fan base and would help the East London club avoid a potential fan backlash.
