Tottenham and Arsenal’s transfer battle is heating up once again, with both clubs circling a Premier League defender Thomas Frank has once worked with.
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal’s rivalry has spilt far beyond the football pitch this summer, with the two clubs repeatedly locking horns in the transfer market.
So far, Arsenal appear to have gained the upper hand after securing the signing of Eberechi Eze, even when Tottenham were widely tipped as favourites for the former Crystal Palace star.
The north London rivals also looked set for another battle when reports suggested Arsenal had made a move for Piero Hincapie, immediately after Spurs were said to have launched a loan offer for the Bayer Leverkusen defender. Where the Ecuadorian eventually ends up remains to be seen.
Tottenham and Arsenal target Brentford defender Nathan Collins
According to TBR Football, Arsenal and Spurs are now preparing for another clash in the market, this time over Brentford centre-back Nathan Collins.
The two north London clubs, who both showed interest earlier in the summer, are understood to have revived their pursuit of the Republic of Ireland international, but Brentford’s stance is said to be firm, with the Bees not willing to sanction a sale.
However, Tottenham and Arsenal are not alone in their admiration of Collins, with Liverpool also credited with an interest, though reports suggest that Marc Guehi remains their first-choice option.
Spurs defensive promise yet to be fulfilled
It was recently reported that senior figures at Tottenham had given Thomas Frank assurances that the centre-back department would be reinforced during this window.
With less than a week remaining before the deadline, the Dane is still waiting for the type of addition that would truly raise the level of Tottenham’s defensive line.
Spurs continue to look light in the left-sided centre-back role, with Micky van de Ven the most natural fit, yet his concerning injury record leaves Tottenham exposed should he face another spell on the sidelines.
