Tottenham and Newcastle both want Fiorentina star but Spurs may have upper hand

Tottenham Hotspur have competition to contend with in the race for an Italian international’s signature this summer.

Tottenham’s midfield looks in desperate need of reinforcements despite the club adding Conor Gallagher to their squad in January.

The Lilywhites look devoid of creativity and enterprise in the middle of the park, and some big-name Premier League midfielders are reportedly on Spurs’ wishlist.

It has emerged over recent weeks that Tottenham are also plotting a move for an exciting Italian international who is enjoying a fabulous Serie A season.

Tottenham battle Premier League rivals for Nicolo Fagioli

It was reported a few days ago that Spurs have a genuine interest in Fiorentina’s Nicolo Fagioli, and that has now been backed up by a new source.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the former Juventus man’s impressive displays at the Artemio Franchi Stadium this season have attracted attention from the Premier League.

The report says that ‘an English threat looms over Fiorentina’, with Tottenham named as fans of the 25-year-old and said to have made ‘exploratory contacts’ ahead of a summer move.

The Lilywhites face competition from Newcastle United in the race for the midfielder, whose future at Florence is now thought to be in doubt.

Could Spurs have an advantage in their pursuit of Fagioli?

TMW point out that former Tottenham sporting director, Fabio Paratici, is now the head of football at Fiorentina.

The Spurs hierarchy may hope that their relationship with the Italian would give them an advantage over Newcastle and others in any potential negotiations over Fagioli this summer.

Crystal Palace, West Ham and Fulham were also credited with an interest in the Italian midfielder, who may not have any shortage of suitors in the summer.
