Tottenham announce pre-match ‘visible stand’ after Kevin Danso was subjected to racist abuse

1 hour ago 27

Tottenham Hotspur have issued a statement of solidarity following a distressing incident of social media abuse directed at Kevin Danso in the wake of the recent draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Kevin Danso will surely be kicking himself after his error proved costly in Tottenham Hotspur’s last encounter with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The centre-back’s hesitation to clear his lines while under pressure from Paul van Hecke was the difference between one point and three for Tottenham.

However, he will be looking to make amends as Spurs return to action this weekend at Molineux against Wolves.

That encounter is another pivotal one, with Tottenham able to leapfrog West Ham United with a win, although a Hammers victory over Everton will keep Spurs in 18th, two points adrift of safety.

Tottenham backs Kevin Danso after racist abuse following Brighton error

Unfortunately for Danso, he was subjected to disgraceful racial abuse on social media following his costly mistake.

There is no room for racism in football, the Premier League or at Tottenham, and the club have now issued a strong statement in support of their defender.

In their official communication addressing the abuse, Tottenham made their position clear, stating: “Following the abhorrent racist abuse suffered by Kevin Danso on social media after the Brighton match, the Club is taking a visible stand this weekend.

“We want to make it clear to the world that if anyone thinks it is ok to racially abuse our players on social media, we will take the strongest possible action.”

Roberto De Zerbi backs Kevin Danso before crucial Wolves fixture

It is disappointing that conversations around racism are still ongoing in 2026. Tottenham have taken steps to tackle the issue, yet incidents like this continue to surface.

Fans can play their part by reporting any abuse directly to [email protected] so the club can take action in line with the measures outlined.

Roberto De Zerbi also voiced his support for Danso, addressing both the abuse and the centre-back’s performance when speaking publicly.

He said: “I was very annoyed by the racist insults towards Kevin, but he has to be calm and I am proud of him.

“He played a fantastic game. Not a good game but a fantastic game. I do not consider one mistake. He will be here next season because he is a good guy, a very good player and every one of us is lucky to work with him.”
