Tottenham could be set for cash injection thanks to Leeds United transfer interest

1 hour ago 3

Tottenham Hotspur will be paying attention to the latest developments about Troy Parrott’s future as the striker’s return to the Premier League draws closer.

The former Spurs man has become a hero for the Republic of Ireland over the past week by netting five goals in two matches against Portugal and Hungary to fire them to the World Cup playoffs.

Parrott’s heroics have seen some Premier League clubs show interest in the striker, with reports indicating that Everton and Leeds have both explored moves for the 23-year-old.

Spurs stand to benefit financially from any Parrott transfer, as the Lilywhites hold a 20 per cent sell-on clause on their academy graduate.

Tottenham could get Troy Parrott financial boost in January

It has now been reported by Dutch publication VoetbalNieuws that Leeds are now stepping up their interest in the former Spurs man.

It is revealed that Daniel Farke’s men had an offer for Parrott turned down in the summer, and they have continued to keep tabs on the AZ Alkmaar man since.

The outlet claims that the Elland Road hierarchy have now officially begun talks with AZ over a deal for the Irishman in January.

It thus appears that Parrott’s return to the Premier League may happen much sooner than expected, and Tottenham may stand to have their kitty boosted by several million as a result.

Should Spurs drive home their advantage and re-sign Parrott?

Tottenham can land Parrott at a 20 per cent discount due to the sell-on clause they have on the forward.

Spurs are short of homegrown and club-trained players in their squad, and it may thus make sense for the North Londoners to explore a move for the 23-year-old.

However, given the difficult journey that Parrott has had so far in his career, one would expect the youngster to prioritise regular game time, which Thomas Frank’s men may not be able to offer him.
