A versatile Serie A youngster has caught the attention of Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the January transfer window.

Some sources have claimed that Spurs are looking to strengthen the left side of their defence in January, with the club wanting a top-class backup for Micky van de Ven.

It has been reported that Tottenham also want to add a left-back to their squad in light of Destiny Udogie’s recurring injury problems.

It has now emerged that the Lilywhites could look to hit two birds with one stone by signing a versatile teenager, who can play as a centre-back as well as a left-back.

Tottenham eyeing move for Atalanta youngster Honest Ahanor

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are one of the clubs that have been impressed by the performances of Honest Ahanor since he swapped Genoa for Atalanta in the summer.

The 17-year-old arrived at Bergamo in a £17.5m deal in the summer and has played at left-sided centre-back, left-back and at wing-back this season.

Scouts are flocking to see him this season, with Spurs’ representatives among those who have made trips to Italy to watch him in action.

The report says that Ahanor is very happy at Atalanta, but the club may sell the youngster if they have a chance to triple their money.

It is explained that Raffaele Palladino’s men will have a lot to think about if an offer of €60m (£52.6m) arrives for the versatile defender.

Spurs face competition from across Europe for Honest Ahanor

However, getting a deal done for the Nigeria international is easier said than done for Tottenham.

TEAMtalk reveal Chelsea are paying close attention to Ahanor and have followed his progress right since his time in Genoa’s youth system.

Man City, Man United and Newcastle United have also been impressed with the defender this season, while Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are also watching him closely.

One source close to Atalanta is quoted as telling the publication about Ahanor: “Every top club in Europe is watching Honest, but in recent weeks Chelsea and City have been virtually ever-present. He is a huge talent.”
