Tottenham fans all say the same thing about Mathys Tel after international screamer

7 hours ago 29

Tottenham fans have been quick to react after Mathys Tel produced a brilliant strike on international duty, with many questioning why the young forward has been left out of Thomas Frank’s Champions League squad.

Tel has endured a frustrating spell as a Tottenham Hotspur player in recent weeks, with the forward left out of the club’s Champions League squad despite his obvious promise and talent.

Thomas Frank decided to overlook the youngster, instead turning to Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and new loan arrival Kolo Muani to lead the line in Europe.

The UCL squad surprised sections of the Tottenham fanbase, many of whom felt Tel deserved a place in the squad at the very least, and the forward has been left with a clear point to prove whenever opportunities come his way.

Tottenham fans hail Mathys Tel after stunning strike

Tel is one of several Tottenham players currently away on international duty, and the 20-year-old made his mark for France under-21s in their clash with Serbia on Monday, September 8.

The forward netted with a superb curling effort from the right, a finish that drew comparisons with Heung-min Son, and his display has left many Tottenham supporters wondering why Frank did not consider Tel good enough for the Champions League squad.

One fan took to social media to write: “Surely this guy gets a chance under Frank? Finishing ability is unreal.” Another added: “People ready to give up on this kid, btw.”

A third supporter wondered: “I just want to know why Frank does not see him as worthy of the bench in UCL. Maybe he just is not performing in training. Weird.”

Others were equally effusive, with one saying: “I swear if we give up on this kid, he’s got world-class potential.” Another remarked: “What a player, hopefully sooner rather than later he can do this for us.”

A final supporter reminded others of Mathys Tel’s talent: “His goal catalogue has multiple goals like this in it and people are convinced there is no player there. He just needs games.”

Tel responds to Tottenham squad snub

Mathys Tel has since admitted he was left disappointed by Frank’s decision to omit him from Tottenham’s 22-man Champions League squad. However, he was keen to stress that he remains focused on his development.

The French forward explained that he has worked hard on his mentality and is determined not to let setbacks define him, instead choosing to stay positive and make the most of any opportunities in the starting eleven.

Speaking to the media about missing out, Tel said: “It is clear that when you are not on a squad, it definitely hurts, but I am someone who stays pretty positive, no matter the situation, because I think I have worked a lot on my mental side, so today it is definitely a disappointment; I would have liked to be there.

“But the coach’s choice is the coach’s choice; we can only respect it, and we will work to come back in the best possible way.”
