A new report has made a rather surprising claim about Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Antoine Semenyo.

It has been reported for some time that signing a top-class left-winger like Semenyo is Tottenham’s top priority in January.

In fact, it has even been claimed over recent days by some sources that Spurs have intensified their pursuit of the Bournemouth star and that the North London club are willing to pay his £65m release clause.

However, a reputed source has now poured cold water on the reports linking the Ghanaian with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

No indications that Tottenham will reignite their pursuit of Antoine Semenyo

A new report in The Athletic has now revealed that Spurs did show genuine interest in the 25-year-old during the summer window.

However, their enquiry was knocked back by the Cherries, who informed the Lilywhites that they would have to pay £70m for Semenyo.

The winger has since signed a new deal at the Vitality Stadium, which contains a release clause of £65m.

However, the report suggests that there are no indications at the moment that Spurs will make a move for Semenyo again in the January window.

Are Spurs admitting defeat in the race for Semenyo?

Given that Tottenham Hotspur need a left-winger, it makes no sense for the Lilywhites not to at least try to land the Bournemouth winger.

However, a number of outlets have claimed over recent weeks that Man City and Liverpool are leading Spurs in the race for Semenyo’s signature.

It could simply be the case that the North London club reached out to the player but did not get any encouragement, and have thus decided to move on to other targets.
