With James Maddison joining Dejan Kulusevski on the treatment table, Lucas Bergvall has said that he is ready to step into the Tottenham number ten role if Thomas Frank asks him to do so.

James Maddison is expected to miss the majority of the upcoming season after it was confirmed that the midfielder had ruptured his ACL.

Thomas Frank has admitted that Maddison’s injury is a devastating blow to the side, and it comes at a very bad time for the club, considering that Dejan Kulusevski is expected to miss the start of the season.

Tottenham fans are desperate to see the club sign a top-class attacking midfielder, but one Spurs youngster is ready to fill the void if he is called on to do so.

Lucas Bergvall is ready to play as a Tottenham number ten

Frank has used Pape Sarr as the most advanced of Tottenham’s midfield three in the last two pre-season friendlies against Newcastle and Bayern Munich.

However, another man who operated in the number ten role last season is Bergvall, who has now insisted that he is ready to step into the advanced midfield role if that is what is asked of him.

The Swede has told Football.London: “I’m just going to play in whatever position Thomas wants me to play, doesn’t matter if it’s six, eight or a ten. I’ll play there and do my best. Of course, there’s a difference [between the roles]. You’re further up the pitch.

“When you’re a six, you have to come out to get the ball more, be more in the build-up. When you’re a ten, you need to have some magic and come into the box and score goals and assist.”

When asked if he has the magic to play as a ten, Bergvall responded: “I don’t know, we’ll see!. I feel like I can do a good job there. Maybe I’m not a typical ten, but with Madders and Kulu injured, maybe I need to step up. Pape played there today, so we’ll see. I’ll just play wherever he wants me.”

Bergvall says Spurs players will support Maddison through ordeal

Radu Dragusin has already vowed to support Maddison through his recovery, just like the midfielder was there for him over the last few months.

Bergvall admitted that the 28-year-old was distraught when he suffered the injury and remarked that his teammates will give the England international all the support he needs.

On Maddison’s injury, the 19-year-old said: “It’s just so, so unlucky. He’s been working so hard to get back, and then in his second game back, that happens. Football can be brutal sometimes. We need to support him and for him to get back even stronger.

“Yeah, [he was inconsolable], especially as it was supposed to be a beautiful ending for Sonny as well, then it was just so brutal for Madders. Of course, everyone at the club was upset about that. He’s an unbelievable player.”
